Hello there ! So I know I've been slacking like crazy, and I haven't posted in what feels like two weeks now. But I've been super duper busy. I had a photoshoot last weekend, which I felt went really well. It was with a friend who is one hell of a photographer, remember her name ! It's Ashley Sherwood. She's gonna go places.( Next post will be soley devoted to the looks we did on that shoot, and what I used. ) Anyways, besides that I packed up my traincase and a softcase aswell. Which still wasn't enough room ! Because of lack of space, I didn't bring everything I wish I did. But Im gonna post some pictures of my dearest kit, and some of the things that a Makeup Artist would definitely need to bring. I will probably do this in more detail in the future once I gain more experience myself. But I'll post the basics for now.
I use a Sephora traincase, which would run you about $140 dollars. In my opinion, it was completely worth it. It's a very good quality traincase, and can definitely withstand all the bumps and bangs that can and will occur while lugging around all your equiptment. This style of traincase in particular comes in Black, Pink and Silver. I, of course picked the Black. The most obvious choice. The traincase comes packed with 16 interchangable compartments, which makes it perfect to fit every size of makeup you have. It wouldn't hurt to throw in a couple more compartments, but thats just me being greedy. Haha.
As you can see below, I carry a variety of brands, mostly MAC. But also, some other favourites such as, NYX Jumbo Pencils ( Fantastic bases ), Hot Topic Liners ( Beauty on a budget, and such a wide variety of colours ), OCC Lip Tars ( The most pigmented makeup in the world. And they can be used for everything creative. ) and Sephora Waterproof Liners ( They are so dependable, and will stay on even through a rain storm. )
To carry along my other needs I brought my Modella soft case. Which has such an immense amount of space, storage for brushes, side strap and also came with a great smaller makeup bag, which I always use for my tweezers, sissors and loose ends. I've seen the bag at Walmart but I actually picked mine up at an outlet for a quarter of the price. I paid a whopping $15 bucks for this bad boy. And it was worth every bright and shiny penny. It fit all my larger items ( Straightener, Towels, etc. ) comfortably. It also has one large compartment with tons of pockets, aswell as another hidden area to store all your brushes nicely and more pockets to top it of aswell. One of my favourite bargains ever !
( The bag is actually a solid black, the flash turned it purple ! )
Random goods that will help at a shoot ;
Baby Wipes ; An item that will definitely become useful. Doing body makeup can become a hassle when it comes to buying makeup remover / makeup wipes. It can become very costly depending on what brand you buy. But Baby Wipes are generally very cheap and may come in a handy little case aswell that you can slip into your makeup bag. They seemed to be very useful in my experience. And I only paid $2.50 for mine !
Towels ( Probably Black ) ; Towels came in good use for a clean sanitized area for my brushes aswell as makeup products. I also choice black because of the stains that can and definitely will occur and will completely ruin your towels. These were great buy. I bought 2 towels the size between hand towels and full body towels, haha. Perfect size. Only$3.50 at Walmart, per Towel.
Teasing Comb ; No Hairstylist ? No problem. With this comb and a bit of hair spray, you can create an unlimited amount of looks. This also depends, if you've never used one before, I would stay away from this one. You want it to look classy, not like a Snooki hair-don't. If you have had some experience teasing your hair before, then pick one of these combs up at your local Walmart or Sallys, for a little under $4.00 !
Nice Smelling Hand Sanitizer ; You'd be suprised how important NICE smelling sanitizer is. I'm all about keeping my hands super clean at all times. But when your giving your model a burning nose because of the intense smell of alcohol, there's an issue. I was in search of a good smelling sanitizer and I've found it. Bath and Body Works, has the nicest smelling ones ever. I was lucky enough to buy a ton of the sanitizers they had for their christmas line. I got, Candy Apple, Twisted Candy Cane and Peppermint. I swear, not a hint of the alcohol smell. I even got compliments from the model, saying how nice my hands smell ! They will run you $2.50 a bottle. Or if you catch them on sale, less !
Breath Mints ; This one is just plain self explainatory. Don't have smelly breath when your that close to other peoples faces. Don't forget this very important item.
This barely scrapes the surface of the things you will need to accomplish a shoot but I how it shows you some random things you might've forgotten. Well, goodnight for now. Dream big.
Song of the day ;
